Forum link for Part 2Ok, so you think I’d be happy that Winter is on it’s way, wouldn’t you! I’ve spent all Summer ticking off the days on the calendar. I even blogged about wishing Summer would hurry up and end!
But no. I’m hot happy. In one way it’s great – I can take the childish plaits out of my hair (well, a bit more often than I can at the moment) and I can enjoy the cooler weather without having to wear something that looks like it’s made for Winter – ie covering every square inch and in varying shades of either black or white. Maybe my face won’t be quite so red? Two months ago we went to meet with my sister-in-law and her adorable children for the day. I didn’t realise it until we were in the ladies’ just before we left – I caught sight of my face and almost died on the spot. I looked like I’d been the victim of a drive-by spray-painting. In heart-attack red, obviously.
This has got me thinking about Winter. THE Winter I couldn’t wait for a couple of months back. I’ve changed my mind, now, thank you very much. I want to keep Spring. Summer exacerbates my internal boiling up and overheating – and resultant sweating. Autumn – now my second favourite season. If it was less humid than it can be, then I’d be happy to keep it a joint favourite. Winter, though – that’s another blog all on it’s own.
Tomorrow I’ll explain more, but right now, I need to get a shower and an early night.

August 28th, 2011Site NewsAs you may or not be aware, ETS was banned in Sweden (it’s birthplace) some time ago. We were informed recently that ETS has also been banned in Pakistan. I’ve done some googling and whilst I can’t find a definitive answer, I came across this recently published article – I thought it might be well worth a read by everyone, not just those in Pakistan! I have to say though, it’s fantastic to have something relevant for our Pakistani HH friends for a change! I do hope it helps somebody.

Correspondence: mrimranqadir@hotmail.comSummary
In hyperhidrosis, there is too much and non&physiological production of sweat by our body. Hyperhidrosis affects 1&2% of the population. The origin of this disease is not clear, although some workers say that it is caused by sympathetic over activity nervousness. For the cure of this disease Antiperspirants are available. It can also be cured by Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS) method. Keywords: Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy, Iontophoresis, Liposuction, Botox, Botunlinum, Anxiety
Introduction
In hyperhidrosis, there is a too much and non&physiological production of sweat by our body. (1) Hyperhidrosis may be a general condition where unnecessary sweating occurs all over the body or local hyperhidrosis where the unnecessary sweating is in a specific location such as the face, feet or hands. By looking at affected portion, it seems that it is just washed, either it is hand, foot or underarms.Important Facts
1. Hyperhidrosis affects between 1&2% of the population.
2. In certain regions the percentage appears more than 2% (Taiwan and Philippines).
3. Family genetic history is believed to play a major role in Hyperhidrosis (2)
4. The most common areas of focal Hyerhidrosis are in the hands, armpits, and feet.
5. Male and females both are affected.
6. It can negatively affect people socially and functionally in their lives.

Other factors may also take part in the problem and include certain foods, and drinks, nicotine, caffeine and fragrances. These may generate a reaction leading to the appearance of the problem.MANAGEMENT
Antiperspirants
Antiperspirants are available in market. By spraying upon affected portion, they produce less sweat for 6&10 hours. (4) Some multi national companies launch 16 hours less producing sweat Antiperspirants in market.Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy
With surgery, sweat through affected portion can be minimized or even can be removed completely. This method is called Endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy (ETS). (5) In ETS, surgeon operates up to 30&60 minutes. Patient is completely unconscious and surgeon cuts sweat related Nerve. But this method is completely banned even in Sweden that was, its birth place in 2003. Because quantity of sweat can even gets more instead of reduction or it can expel to release through any other part of body. Another method during surgery overactive glands of sweat can removed from the body.Sweat gland suction
Sweat gland suction (6) method is originated from Liposuction (7) and is only used in auxiliary hyperhidrosis (8) means to remove excess of sweat from under arms.Iontophoresis
Iontophoresis (9) is used for hands and foot. Affected part is absorbed or dipped in water and electric current is passed whose quantity ranges from 15&18 amperes and is produced through DC Generator and in armpits the current is applicated via wet sponge electrodes.Botox. This method of cure is so famous that in 2004 FDA approved this method. Botox (10) is particularly common for sweat in underarms.
Purified Botunlinum Toxin.
Purified botunlinum toxin (11) is injected into the underarms, which temporarily block the nerves that stimulate sweating. The affect usually lasts for 2&6 months although some patients may continue to benefits for 12 months. It is very costly treatment. Make it clear that Botox is used to remove the wrinkles of skin and it can use as anti aging agent. (12) Prospects of ancient general Practitioner In the treatment of this disease doctors and herbalists (13) tell few precautions, upon acting on them it reduces significantly. August 27th, 2011Site NewsI’ve been reading information given on the NHS Choices website regarding ETS. They have renamed it VATS – Video Assisted Thoracic Sympathectomy. It’s exactly the same outcome as ETS. Please note below they don’t actually mention death (of which there have been far too many) as a possibility…
FORUM LINK opens in new window
VATS – Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery
Video-assisted thoracic sympathectomy (VATS) is the most widely used type of surgery to treat hyperhidrosis. VATS is usually recommended to treat cases of hyperhidrosis that have failed to respond to other types of treatment.
During the procedure, a surgeon will make two small incisions on the side of your chest and remove some of the nerve tissue that runs from your sympathetic nervous system to the affected sweat glands.
VATS can be used to treat excessive sweating of the armpits, face and hands. However, treating excessive sweating of the feet it is not recommended because the operation carries a risk of causing permanent sexual dysfunction, such as impotence. This is because damage to the part of the sympathetic nervous system that runs down the back and into the legs could also damage the nerves that are connected to the genitals.
So far, VATS has been moderately successful in treating hyperhidrosis. However, the operation does carry a significant risk of associated side effects as outlined below.
The most common side effect of VATS is excessive sweating in another part of the body, usually the lower back or upper thighs. This is known as compensatory sweating. It is thought that almost all people who have the VATS procedure will experience some degree of mild compensatory sweating. However, an estimated 1 in 20 people will develop a more severe form of compensatory sweating. This is more likely to happen if you are obese.
Other side effects of VATS include:sweating of the face and neck after eating food – this is known as gustatory sweating and it is thought to affect around 1 in 20 people
phantom sweating – an unusual side effect where a person feels like they are about to break out in a sweat but never actually do (this affects just under half of people who have VATS and usually improves with time)
increased sensitivity to cold
dry hands
changes in how things taste
It is unclear exactly how common the last three side effects listed above are, because reports vary widely.
Complications that develop as a result of VATS are much less common. However, one possible complication is known as Homer’s syndrome. This affects one side of the face and makes the eye droopy, which can sometimes make it difficult to open. The affected half of the face is also unable to sweat.
Homer’s syndrome is caused by accidental damage to the nervous system, which may not be possible to repair. It is thought that people who have the VATS procedure have a 1 in 250 chance of developing Homer’s syndrome following surgery.
Other complications of VATS can include:
Air that becomes trapped between the layers of the lung, which can cause chest pain and breathing difficulties. This is known as pneumothorax and it usually resolves without the need for treatment. If treatment is required, a tube can be inserted into the lung to draw the air out.
Post-operative infection – a rare complication occurring in around only 1 in a 1,000 cases.
I’m sure Louise Field’s family would be very disappointed in this, it’s as though nothing has been learned from her (and other people’s) tragic death.

August 22nd, 2011Site NewsI’ve been reading through some links that Pseudonym posted on the forum – it made for a very interesting 20 minutes and could well be worth trying. I know it says they cured their HH and I’m always skeptical of anything that claims to be a cure – but what the hell, it’s got to be worth a go. I’m going to have a go, I’ll only be able to do some of it though – I’m on a cocktail of medication/have some specific dietary requirements that means I can’t dedicate myself to it fully but even if it helps just a little bit then it would be worth every second. It’s possible that this person’s HH was caused by a specific food group, almost like a reaction to the chemical/s their body couldn’t cope with but who knows, I’m no expert.
If you have a go at this, please keep some notes for us and let us know how you get on. If you wish to do this anonymously, please email me on betty@verysweatybetty.com – that’s my own personal email, nobody else has access.

August 20th, 2011Site NewsRight. This is a particular bugbear for me. Because I sweat from my scalp to my toes, it’s a battle trying to find products that don’t slide off when I get a sweat on, and lots of other nuances.
What products have you found that work with you rather than against you? Do you have a beauty regime that works? If so, please share it with the rest of us because we all need help on the best products and methods of use! The challenge is, the cheaper the better! If there’s one thing that us lot have an abundance of, it’s tried and dumped-in-the-cupboard products that have set us back a lot of money!
My product agony…
Tags: annoying, beauty, cream, dripping, embarrassing, excessive sweating, hair, hyperhidrosis, moisturiser, oil, products, shampoo, shower gel, slide off, stress
I’ll start on my scalp! Because my scalp rarely dries for three or four months in the Summer, it gets particularly flaky. I’ve tried every type of shampoo you can think of and 99% of them make my scalp sore, extra flaky and brings me out in blisters/dermatitis. I’m currently using DHC Scalp Moisturising shampoo, I’m dreading the day it stops working for me, or they discontinue it. I have no idea what I’ll do then. Hair styling products often only help make me hotter and sweat more as it’s just another layer between my skin and the air.
Face. Moisturisers often make matters worse. Some of them sit on your skin rather than absorb fully. The worst ones are the thick creamy ones, not only do they slide off and stop the air getting to your skin, they mix with the sweat and get slimy. Many times I’ve started sweating heavily and put my hand up to wipe my face and been covered in slimy moisturising cream. Lotions are slightly better but these days I tend to stick to using a serum at night and moisturise with a drop of oil morning and night time. Jojoba oil is good, extra virgin olive oil etc. You can also clean your face with these oils, mad as it sounds. Because our skin loses it’s valuable oils where we sweat and wipe so much, oil is probably the best thing to clean it with. Always use an astringent – I use witch hazel and tea tree oil (I mix them myself, so much cheaper) which helps to minimise pores and therefore the sweating.
Underarms – again I find I sweat off antiperspirants and deodorants. The best way of making sure they stick to the skin is making sure you’re thoroughly dry and even use a little talc to make sure there’s no little damp patches before applying the product. I find sticks work best for me as they don’t need time to dry.
Body. There’s no way on this planet I can ever use a body lotion or butter ever again. I’ve tried everything. The time I used aqueous cream was by far the worst. I showered and slapped it on in the morning and by the time I’d walked to work, my clothes were soaked through (the cream made me hotter and sweat more) and stained and sticky. I didn’t stop sweating. It was a nightmare. I ended up going home with a migraine because I’d fretted so badly. I cried all the way home, showered and slept the rest of the day away. Now I use oil, same as on my face. I can’t use baby oil because it’s so thick but jojoba or ev olive oil is fine. The dry oil body sprays are great too.
Feet. I use nothing on the soles of my feet, unless I’m putting heel cream on at bedtime. My heels are badly cracked so I use the Avon pedi-wipes and then just slap on cracked heel balm. I rub it in all over my feet because I know I’ll be getting a shower in the morning. Do be careful if you’re a fellow wearer of Crocs, Crocs and just moisturised slippy feet aren’t the best combination! -

“I got my Wrapps last week, and have used them most days since – it’s been as hot as 36 here this week – and I am VERY impressed!
Was at a friend’s wedding all day and evening last weekend and was dry all day. I’ve been amazed, it’s not only me that stays dry but the Wrapp itself; in terms of moisture you’d never know you had another layer on, and it also keeps things completely odour-free.
Denise, you are a genius Certainly money well spent and one less thing for me to worry about every summer, which is a huge relief. Thanks so much ladies for introducing me to this marvellous product.”
